Camping

One of the great things about Lake City is that if you travel just a short distance away from town, you are in the wilderness and it can feel like you are miles away. Because of that, we have many visitors that love to camp in the area.  Whether you are in an RV for more comfortable camping, or in a tent, there is a place for you! The public campgrounds are basically first come, first serve… so you should keep that in mind if you plan to come camp. There are also various dispersed camping areas as well. We suggest stopping by the Lake City Visitor Center to find out where the best camping spots are located. Please camp in designated areas ONLY.

We have put together a small list of items to make sure you have while camping here, as well as some basic tips.

  • Make sure you have plenty potable water, especially if you will be in the back country away from town.
  • Have Bear Spray and an Air Horn handy.
  • Use bug spray and check for ticks daily.
  • Keep your trash contained and do not store it in your tent. Whenever you travel back into town, take your bag of trash with you. There is a dumpster located at the Visitor Center for your use or you can take larger amounts of trash to the Transfer Station.
  • Be prepared for changes in weather by bringing along warm clothing. The nights can get chilly, and you never know when it will rain or even snow!
